New Look for Spreeby Sean Schofield

Today we are pleased to announce the launch of the newly designed Spree site. We've been hard at work on this site while simultaneously working our days jobs taking care of our Spree clients. The most important new feature of the site is the ability to register your own company and then register websites for the showcase. We're moderating new companies and sites so please allow a few hours before expecting to see your company/site listed. This is an unfortunate step needed to prevent spammers from ruining the site. We're going to be adding more functionality and instructions to the registration process but we wanted to make sure that we launched the site in time for Rails Conf.

You will probably also notice that we have a brand new logo! The old logo was a bit generic so we were looking for something a little more unique to capture the spirit of the Spree project. Personally I think it captures the deceptively simple nature of the Spree project. The mission of the Spree project is to write the best e-commerce software out there and to have some fun and make our customers happy in the process. I think the logo captures this sentiment perfectly.

New Spree Stores (August 2009)by railsdog

showcase_yellowbird Even though August is traditionally a slow business time for most developers, there were still a bunch of new sites launched. There were seven new Spree sites announced by various developers in our community. Nuwan announced the creation of ZionPet which is a nice basic pet store. The same developer also created two similar sites Bite Me and Sue's Pet Castle. Just a quick note that several developers are also working on multi store extensions which will make building and operating related stores like this a snap.

Spree was mentioned a few weeks ago on a French language blog post. Right around this time we also started to see a few new Spree sites in French. We recently learned about this great looking model RC helicopter site. There's also this interesting fashion site which makes some interesting use of Flash.

I thought the developer of this paper product site did a nice job making an engaging site for what I would otherwise consider to be a pretty dull product. Simple design but it looks nice. While we're on the subject of design, you should definitely take a look at the Yellow Bird Project site which received a nice writeup on the Web Designers Depot blog .

If you'd like to share your Spree site with the rest of us, please drop us a line on spree-user.

New Spree Stores (July 2009)by railsdog

SlouchbackFour brand new Spree sites have launched this month. Slouchback.com was built in just a few days and makes use of Amazon Flexible Payments Service as one of its interesting innovations. The site is also a little bit a head of the Spree core development since it has discounts and variant images (both of which are planned features for the next release.)

MovingBoxesForLess.com was also launched this month. The creator of this project was new to Spree but was able to build this site in under a week. Interesting side note, the site is hosted on Webbynode

The Location VIP Montreal store launched this week. It lists cars for sale as well as rent. Spree can also be easily used for a small online craft business as seen in the newly launched Beca Designs shop.
